Valentines must be creative and artistic, not purchased at Walmart or other store; and they must have a unique message showing at least a minimal level of understanding of an author or a character.

To be considered for National Honor Society, students must maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.5 and be at least into the second semester of the sophomore year.

Dear Prospective Member,

This packet contains the information forms for students interested in being selected for membership in National Honor Society. Please take the time to fill out the forms completely, properly, and neatly. Do not be modest — every bit of information can be used by the Faculty Council to assist with the selection process.

The purpose of these forms is to further the knowledge of the Faculty Council regarding those students whose G.P.A. has made them eligible for membership in Pahrump Valley High School’s chapter of National Honor Society.

After all activity resumes are collected a selection committee made up of TEACHERS and ADMINISTRATORS evaluate the resumes and choose those who will be inducted into the society. No students sit on the selection committee.

Students with a weighted GPA at or above 3.5 are eligible to submit a resume during or after the second semester of their sophomore year.

For this spring membership period, NHS is accepting applications from current sophomores and juniors.

Those selected for membership will be notified before Tuesday, February 23^rd, when current members will “tap” them during class.

This activity resume is due by Wednesday, February 10^th. Please submit it to Mr. Williams in room B19. If you have questions about this process, please feel free to stop by my classroom or call (702) 518-3679. Thank you.

There are several activities on campus:

1. Student Council is making cards to send to a leukemia victim who wants to set the world record for card collecting.
2. National Honor Society is collecting 12″ teddy bears for kids in need.
3. Another club will be sponsoring giving trees in the main and A-buiding offices.
4. ROTC will probably have a service opportunity.
5. ??

Also, any community service opportunity will count:

1. Working as a Salvation Army Bell Ringer.
2. Donating food to one of the local food banks.
3. Church related community service.
4. Activities related the 4H or Scouting.
5. ??

Bring in proof of you participating in any service activity this month and you will be awarded 10 bonus points. You might bring in pictures of yourself, a note from a parent or organization leader, a receipt for a donated purchase, etc. Use your imagination, and get into the spirit of the season.
